My Perfect Day Out in Scarborough – Lou

louiseI was born in Birmingham, so it was always a real treat to see the sea. I still get excited to this day when we crest a hill and I can spot the sea in the distance, and that’s after living in Scarborough for 5 or more years!! So every time I take people out in Scarborough there is one star, and that’s the SEA!

Blue Crush.

What better way to start the day than with a gorgeous breakfast, veggie or not, at Blue Crush Restaurant and Bar on North Bay. Great food – dogs allowed – and brilliant views out over the sea and of the castle. I always walk here through Peasholm Park, and then after that along the seafront. It’s a great place to bike along too.

The Seafront – North Bay to South Bay.

Take a stroll or a bike ride along here on a glorious Summer’s day and you will not regret it! Sea on one side, striking cliffs on the other, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of a Proper British Seaside town. Sandy beaches, kitsch seaside shops and of course ice-cream! Perfect.

The Rotunda Museum.

Scarborough is right on the Jurassic Coast, and the Rotunda is the place to go if you want to explore some of its dinosaur history. It has some great atmospheric displays, but even better it’s only £3 for a YEAR, and that includes the art gallery too – under 18s are totally free!

Scarborough Art Gallery.

We have some great artistic talent and history in Scarborough, and there’s always a good show on in the Art Gallery. Last year there was a fantastic exhibition all about the 1914 bombings that really struck me, and while you’re there why not pop next door to the Woodend and see what’s on show there too! And don’t forget that it’s £3 for a year’s membership to this AND The Rotunda!

The SJT Shop.

It’s not all theatre at the SJT! Though you should definitely see a show if you can, you can also just drop in for a look in the shop. They have all kinds of gifts for sale, made by local artists and crafters – including our chocolates! Go get some!
